Derby Xc league race number 1 at Markfield

Team Pops made their Xc debut on Sunday, looking forward to the mud and cold of Xc running. 24 runners turned out for the club to take on the 5.4 miles of no mud and pure sun.

We arrived very early. In fact far too early, but we got ourselves sorted and lined up for start of the race, strangely the men went out first and the ladies 10 minutes behind. Within 10 metres from the start in the men’s race someone took a tumble causing a mild panic from the runners behind, luckily the gent was ok.

The route had plenty of long grass sections, a few hills and lots of cows followed by a beautiful run around a bit of Thornton water, quite an enjoyable route but tough in places, all Pops did great and worked their socks’ off, producing some great results and sprint finishes at the end.

Bomber was top male Pop back followed by new boy Andy Ashton, while club captain Nicola Holmes was the leading Pop lady.

The only downside to the morning was another team wearing the same coloured kit as us, and in my fair opinion I’d say we looked much better.

Run, fun, pub, beer…..the pops way!

Well done everyone, already looking forward to the 22nd nov for the second Xc race.
